The God Who Sees: Free Verse and Playlist

I wanted to share some final thoughts as I get ready to leave for Asia in a few short hours. I have been thinking about God as a God who sees. A month ago, I wrote a free verse poem / blog post about the fact that God sees us. Below, I have included that poem as well as my Summer 2012 so far iTunes playlist and a song from the playlist that I am especially enjoying right now.

"Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, 'You are the God who sees me.' She also said, 'Have I truly seen the One who sees me?'"
- Genesis 16:13

and He sees His daughter…

This kinda hit me in the face over the last couple days…

God is here. He sees me. He hears me. He’s looking at me. He knows me. He acknowledges me. He desires me. He wants me. He hopes for me. He plans for me. He is in love with me. He cherishes me. He longs for me. He is here for me. He is proud of (not disappointed about) me. He is near to (not far off from) me.
He is honest with me. He is gracious to me. He is forgiving to me. He is honored because of me. He is majestic before me. He is just and pure towards me. He is appreciative of me. He is strong for me. He is mindful of me. He sees me. He notices me. More than that, I am important to him.

God sees you. And he loves you. He does not run away when he sees you approaching. He loves you. He comes near. He invites you on his lap where he can love you and embrace you and welcome you.

He’s God and he loves us. Oh, how he loves.

You Can't Forget Unless You Forgive

You can't forget unless you forgive
You can't move on unless you first let go

-~-~-~-~-~-
Poetry Number Seven
-~-~-~-~-~-

I'm sorry
I forgave you before you apologized
I thought I was doing some great feat
But I never apologized to you
Or asked for your forgiveness
And I'm sorry

If I could do it all over again, I would do it all differently
And If I could take it all back and start over, I would
And even though life has moved on
It still hurts
I still hurt
And I'm sorry

There is no cure for stupidity.
Thank God!
Because I would never have learned this lesson otherwise.

But even still,
I'm sorry.

Temple Tuesday

God, your love is amazing,
Your grace is outstanding,
My soul cannot comprehend.

God, your love brings me to my knees,
Your grace brings me to let go,
Your peace brings me to smile.

God, the gift of your son draws me to tears,
But the fact you redeem me breaks forth my joy.

God, your forgiveness prompts me to forgive others,
And your love prods me to love others.
And the way you welcome me, chief of sinners, into your arms,
Makes me desire to welcome even the worst into your kingdom.

Poetry No. 3

And When I Said I Was Sorry

Okay, maybe I was overreacting a bit.
Maybe more than a bit.
But you know what,
We're good.

And when I said I was sorry,
in a whisper
in a crowd
by your side
late that night,

I meant it.

And when I said I was sorry,
to my empty car
a weekend after
my happiest time
and your forgotten moments,

I meant it.

Poetry No. 1

(No, poetry is not required to have rhyme or rhythm. This is called "free verse".)

The Same Anymore

Did you want more?
I saw it as a date to serve a purpose
A function in which I needed someone on my arm
It was a chance to get to know you and enjoy myself that night

Did I want more?
Maybe you saw it as my invitation
And when I didn't take another step in that direction
Were you wondering? Were you let down? Is that why things just aren't

the same anymore?
