You Can't Forget Unless You Forgive

You can't forget unless you forgive
You can't move on unless you first let go

-~-~-~-~-~-
Poetry Number Seven
-~-~-~-~-~-

I'm sorry
I forgave you before you apologized
I thought I was doing some great feat
But I never apologized to you
Or asked for your forgiveness
And I'm sorry

If I could do it all over again, I would do it all differently
And If I could take it all back and start over, I would
And even though life has moved on
It still hurts
I still hurt
And I'm sorry

There is no cure for stupidity.
Thank God!
Because I would never have learned this lesson otherwise.

But even still,
I'm sorry.

Letter of Life

Poetry Number Six
A Reluctant but Necessary Letter of Life for Many People
~~~---~~~---~~~---~~~---~~~---~~~
To the one who needs compassion and hope,
I am here with open arms.
To the one who hides the pain with joking, but hurts inside,
Let me show you my Creator.
To the one who wants to believe God's word, but isn't able,
See how He's changing my life.
To the one with unanswered questions and uncalmed fears,
Might I awaken you to God's healing.
To the one with broken promises, broken hearts, and empty souls,
Jesus's yoke is light and his burden is easy.
To the one with all the right answers and perfect responses, but who doesn't read beyond the lines,
Ask for peace.
To the one who desires to help, but without the capacity to do,
Just being available is the biggest help.
To the one with a deep desire for God and seeing things change here,
Do not neglect your Father's grace.
To the one with words beyond all measure,
Stop and Think.
To the one who already has an unfair advantage,
Press the brake and slide onto the back burner.
Reminiscing about the Future
(aka Poetry No. 5)
~~
~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
----------------------------------------

I sit here reminiscing about the future
Memories of my home away from home
Recollections of the butterflies, matching steps, and hopeful glances

I sit here remembering what is yet to come
Flashbacks of anticipated anecdotes
My anamnesis of warm moments, when the world outside is chilly

My reflection of the future houses thoughtful gestures, thoughtless arguments
It holds harmonious hours and mistaken minutes
It harbors intimate identities and unrealized carelessness
But the thread that keeps my future memories together is selfless passion

Mine and Yours

Poetry No. 4

Once Before

I put my foot over the ledge
once before

I pulled up my bootstraps
tied my scarf tight
put on my big girl panties
once before

I put my foot over the ledge
but instead of His wings to lift me
all I felt was my body tumbling down
once before

And I can't
I just cannot
Let go of my safety net
And take that first step
Because I did
And even though it seems good, I tumbled down the cliff
once before

Poetry No. 3

And When I Said I Was Sorry

Okay, maybe I was overreacting a bit.
Maybe more than a bit.
But you know what,
We're good.

And when I said I was sorry,
in a whisper
in a crowd
by your side
late that night,

I meant it.

And when I said I was sorry,
to my empty car
a weekend after
my happiest time
and your forgotten moments,

I meant it.

Poetry No. 2

You Remain
When all else fails
Still You remain
When everything passes
Still You remain
When what was once prized sits idly by
Still You remain

Poetry No. 1

(No, poetry is not required to have rhyme or rhythm. This is called "free verse".)

The Same Anymore

Did you want more?
I saw it as a date to serve a purpose
A function in which I needed someone on my arm
It was a chance to get to know you and enjoy myself that night

Did I want more?
Maybe you saw it as my invitation
And when I didn't take another step in that direction
Were you wondering? Were you let down? Is that why things just aren't

the same anymore?
